I think I first met Allan in 1998 via a mutual friend Sune Foldager.

He held a speach about C++’s future at DIKU (the Computer Science department at Copenhagen University).
I read Modern C++ Design and it changed my life. What he has started is like a religion.
First the Programming Ruby (version 1 online) was very easily read and quickly bootstrapped me with Ruby. Later I bought version 2.
Second the Pragmatic Programmer has recently made me a better programmer.

Matz is the architect+implementor of Ruby. He realized the amount of visual noise in other programming languages could be reduced, thus Ruby is easy to read. Thanks for inventing this and making all of it open source.
Wrote an editor and his own very powerful Regular Expression library in Ruby. Very cool.
